Earth Spirits, Dirt Sprites, Leaflitter Fairies, Green Gnomes, Tomato Trolls! Call them what you like! These beautiful souls protect gardens and trees and bugs alike!

There are some people out there born with a green thumb and there are others with the fantastic fortune of housing Dirt Sprites in their gardens! If you find yourself to be one of the latter, their are several things you can do.

  1. REJOICE! Leaflitter fairies are far better than any worm, lady bug, or praying mantis. Tomato trolls keep out rabbits and tend to burned leaves. They act as pollinator late in the season and they rear sprouts from the ground with the care of a mother bird. If you find a little green gnome in your eggplants, REJOICE!

  2. Offer a small shelter near your gardens entrance or exit. This will encourage the dirt sprite to stay and tend your garden. A large bird house or hollowed log will do.

  3. These little green characters love music. Hum, sing, whistle a tune as you care for your garden and the tomato trolls will be compelled to join you. Dance around your dahlias and cosmos and these garden spirits will reward you with blooms for a trillion seasons.

Fate Greenhouses & Beast Menagerie is home to two tomato trolls. Zeck and Hector. The brothers were born from a poblano pepper seed, planted in 2021. Twins but hardly alike. Zek likes bepop and mostly sticks to himself. Hector is outgoing and chatty. He moves around the garded like a busy bee or a marching ant.
